Faith in the Fire: Trusting God Through Life’s Trials
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned.”
— Isaiah 43:2 (NIV)
Life is not always easy. In fact, many times it feels like we are walking through fire — trials, loss, disappointment, fear, and uncertainty surround us. We cry out to God, sometimes wondering if He hears us at all. But Scripture reminds us over and over again: God is not absent in the fire — He is present in it.
The God Who Walks With Us
One of the most powerful stories in the Bible is found in the book of Daniel, chapter 3. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to bow to the golden image set up by King Nebuchadnezzar. As a result, they were thrown into a blazing furnace. But what happened next was miraculous: a fourth man appeared in the fire with them — one who looked like “a son of the gods.”
That fourth man was the pre-incarnate Christ, walking in the fire with them.
God did not prevent them from being thrown into the fire, but He protected them in the fire. Not a hair on their heads was singed. The same is true for us today. God may not always deliver us from hardship, but He promises to be with us through it.
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me.”
– Psalm 23:4
